Coaches tap 10 Jayhawks for all-conference squads

Ten Kansas University football players were included on the coaches’ All-Big 12 Conference teams released Wednesday by the league office.

First-team selections were sophomore cornerback Charles Gordon, national co-leader in interceptions, and defensive end David McMillan, who sparkled in the season finale at Missouri.

Junior linebacker Nick Reid and senior center Joe Vaughn earned second-team honors.

Jayhawks on the honorable mention list were wide receiver Brandon Rideau, defensive end Jermial Ashley, linebacker Gabe Toomey and safeties Rodney Harris and Tony Stubbs.

Gordon also earned honorable mention at wide receiver despite compiling just 150 receptions yards during the season.

The Associated Press will release its All-Big 12 Conference squad, as selected by writers and broadcasters, today. Find out who’s in and who’s out in Friday’s Journal-World.

Big 12 coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Gordon and McMillan were the first Jayhawks to earn first team on the coaches’ selections since defensive tackle Nate Dwyer in 2001.
