Break out the sunglasses – and the ice scraper

If you didn’t garage your car overnight, you probably were out scraping the windows this morning — temperatures were in the low 20s. But a warm-up is on the way, with sunny skies and high temperatures reaching into the low 40s by this afternoon.

“Be sure to grab your coat this morning,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. At 8:45 a.m., the temperature was climbing to 25, but a northwest 7 mph wind made it feel even colder.

“That’s giving us a windchill all the way down to 17 degrees,” Schack said.

However, sunny skies were expected throughout much of the Midwest today, helping temperatures to climb. But. because the 5-12 mph northwest winds are blowing over snow still on the ground in Nebraska, the high will reach only 42 today. she said.

“Everybody sees plenty of sunshine today,” she said. However, “it’s not until tomorrow that we start to warm it up a few degrees.”

The temperature will drop again tonight into the low 20s, with the low expected to be 23 Friday morning. Sunny skies will continue to push temperatures up into the 40s, reaching the high 47 by Friday afternoon, Schack said. Winds will be from the west at 8-15 mph on Friday afternoon.

Saturday morning will start off with clear skies and the low dropping to 27. But moist, warm air will begin moving in from the south on Saturday afternoon, Schack said.

“We make quite a jump into the mid 50s by Saturday,” she said. “But it also brings in a few clouds by Saturday afternoon.” Saturday’s high is expected to be 55, with winds from the southwest 5-10 mph.

Sunday will be cloudy, with fog or drizzle expected in the morning and a low of 35. Sunday’s high will be 52.
