Local business

To the editor:

Interesting. The Chamber of Commerce is currently promoting a “buy local” campaign, and there’s constant discussion about Wal-Mart, et al., taking away profit from local businesses, but the Douglas County commissioners want to take over $120,000 away from two long-time local businesses with their new savings plan.

Now, I understand Mr. Jones may not understand losing a large contract since he is not a local business owner, but Mr. McElhaney and Mr. Johnson should certainly understand the pinch that this will create for M&M Office Supply and Pro-Print.

In fact, I can see losing a contract for over $121,000 as not only a financial loss — enough of one that you may have to consider downsizing or even closing your business eventually — but a personal one as well. And a savings of $10,000 by not using Pro-Print? That, my friends, is a drop in the bucket for a county budget.

So, shame on you, county commissioners and county administration. If you can’t be counted on to support your own community, I can’t imagine supporting you.
