Home games

To the editor:

Kansas University supports Lawrence pretty much, most would agree. The taxpayers also support KU in a variety of ways. It was suggested in the Saturday Column there might be a possibility that Lew Perkins, the new athletic director, could consider taking some home games to Kansas City. I say no way.

Lawrence, Kansas, does a lot for the students and KU. The revenue that home athletic events bring to Lawrence belongs to Lawrence, not Kansas City.

I have no idea who controls the athletic department, but it seems to me if the department is running low on money, then cut salaries, not Lawrence revenue. When it comes to administrators, surely there is some excellent talent out there who would love to be at KU for less money. Sometimes big names cost more than they are worth.

Basketball tickets now cost more than many middle-class people can afford. Can Lawrence afford to lose the revenue from home football and basketball games? My advice? Leave this one alone. Phog Allen is rolling over in his grave.
