Shake up breakfast

Longer, warmer and more active days call for power-packed breakfasts. Instead of a bowl of ordinary cereal, give your child a frosty fruit-and-yogurt shake and a slice of whole-wheat toast with peanut butter.

“The smoothie supplies essential vitamins and minerals, while the peanut butter toast adds protein and fiber, and helps fill you up,” says Katherine Gerber, a Houston area dietitian.

It’s fast, too. While the bread is toasting, puree a few ice cubes with equal parts yogurt and the fruit of your choice in a blender. Allergic to peanut butter? Ask your doctor for a suitable substitution.
