Tyler Thomas, of Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to Linwood Lions Club, was a staff member at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation near Bonner Springs. He worked in the Nature Lodge and taught geology to three sessions of Boy Scouts and 10 sessions of Webelos.

  • Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 3057, chartered to Lawrence Catholic School PTO, attended Theodore Naish Scout Reservation Aug. 12-14 near Bonner Springs. Scouts who attended were Jonathan Fitzgerald, Brady Murrish, Jacob Pfeifer and Lucas Vogelsang, second-year Webelos; and Kolbe Murray and Nathan Shobe, first-year Webelos. The Cubs were accompanied by the following adult leaders and parents: Mike Fitzgerald, Bruce Murrish, John Pfeifer, Michael Murray and Don Shobe.
  • Mason Lee McCurdy, 15, of Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church, will be honored at 4 p.m. today during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at the church. The Eagle award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.

Mason joined Cub Scout Pack 3064, of Eudora, in 1995 as a Tiger Cub Scout. He earned all 20 Webelos achievements and then his Arrow of Light in spring 2000 and joined Boy Scout Troop 52 of Lawrence.

Mason has earned 41 merit badges. He has more than 100 nights of camping and has been a 12-month camper for several years. He has attended camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, Osceola, Mo., being called for Brave in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 2003. He has been on the district day camp staff for four years. He has been a counselor-in-training at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation near Bonner Springs, where he was an aquatics instructor this year. He has completed his ticket for Brown Sea Leadership Training, and attended the National Leadership Seminar for Order of the Arrow. He has attended Junior Leadership Training and also has helped train the course.

He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Tamegonit Lodge, where he has been chapter chief and Whippoorwill committee chairman. He has attended every Order of the Arrow induction since becoming a member, as both a Runner and Elangomat. He earned Brown Hawk, and also attended section conclaves and rendezvous. He attended the national Order of the Arrow conference this year in Ames, Iowa. He has attended high adventures at Florida National High Adventure Sea Base and the Northern Tier National Canoe Base in Minnesota.

He has served as chaplain’s aide, quartermaster, troop guide, instructor, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle project, Mason designed and built wooden playground equipment for the Women’s Transitional Care Services, a shelter for battered women and their children.

Mason is a sophomore at Eudora High School, where he is active in band, cross country, track, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Environmental Club. He is an honor roll student. He also has participated in the People-to-People Student Ambassador program. Mason is the son of Mike and Ralena McCurdy, Eudora.

  • Brian Workman, 17, of Boy Scout Troop 59, will be honored Sunday during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at the Dole Institute of Politics on Kansas University’s west campus. The Eagle award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.

Brian was a member of Cub Scout Pack 3059. He joined Troop 59 in 1998. He has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, librarian, instructor and scribe. He has earned 23 merit badges.

Brian served on the Lone Star pool staff at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, Osceola, Mo., for the past two summers. He has attained the rank of runner in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He is an Ordeal member in the Order of the Arrow.

He participated in the following high adventures: Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, Northern Tier National Canoe Base in Minnesota, and has hiked the Colorado Flat Tops.

For his Eagle Scout project, he reset the path in the Schwegler School courtyard and created a new mulched area for picnic tables.

Brian is a student at Lawrence High School, where he is a member of marching band and the swim team. He served as student representative to the school board. He participates in the Model UN program and Outdoor Life Club. He is the son of Joan and Mark Workman, Lawrence.
