Topeka ? U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, a Democrat from Lenexa, ended his speech Friday to the Kansas AFL-CIO by poking a little fun at U.S. Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft.

Ashcroft is the former boss of Kris Kobach, who is challenging Moore in the 3rd Congressional District.

Moore said Kobach, a Republican, said that when he worked for Ashcroft at the Justice Department, he and Ashcroft sometimes would go hiking or body surfing on the weekends.

“Close your eyes,” said Moore, whose district includes east Lawrence. “I want you to just imagine this mental image of John Ashcroft with his body oiled up, body surfing.”

A man in the crowd yelled out, “No thanks!”
