Mets send reliever Wheeler to Astros

Chicago — The Houston Astros acquired right-handed pitcher Dan Wheeler from the New York Mets on Friday in exchange for minor-league outfielder Adam Seuss.

Wheeler, 26, is 3-1 with a 4.80 earned-run average in 502/3 innings this season. He has pitched in 32 games, including one start. During a major-league career that includes 97 appearances, he is 6-9 with a 5.15 ERA, striking out 142 and walking 63 in 173 innings.

Infielder Patterson signs with Cubs

Chicago — The Chicago Cubs agreed to terms Friday with infielder Eric Patterson, an eighth-round draft pick and the younger brother of Cubs center fielder Corey Patterson.

Eric Patterson, a 21-year-old, batted .326 with nine homers, 49 runs batted in and 48 stolen bases last season at Georgia Tech.
