Dave Matthews Band raises stink

This probably wasn’t what Dave Matthews had in mind when he wrote “Don’t Drink the Water.”

The state of Illinois has filed a lawsuit against the Dave Matthews Band for allegedly dumping up to 800 pounds of liquid human waste from its tour bus into the Chicago River earlier this month, E!Online reports.

It gets worse: The waste showered a crowded tour boat passing by. Luckily, none of the 100 or so tourists sprayed with the waste was seriously injured.

The lawsuit claims that a bus rented by the usually eco-friendly group was traveling Aug. 8 across town when it pulled up alongside a metal grating on the Kinzie Street Bridge. That’s when, the suit claims, bus driver Stefan A. Wohl emptied the contents of the vehicle’s septic tank into the river.

‘Apprentice’ runner-up on way up

New York — Kwame Jackson is starting to look less like an “Apprentice” and more like Donald Trump.

The runner-up in the first season of the NBC reality show “The Apprentice” has completed a multibillion dollar real estate deal of his own. With two other partners, Jackson has made a deal with officials in Prince George’s County in Maryland to develop 550 acres into commercial and residential property.

The deal is worth $3.8 billion and will provide over 32,000 jobs, Jackson said.

In developing one of the nation’s more affluent black counties, “We believe in being catalysts in what we call the second generation of the civil-rights movement,” Jackson said.

“The Apprentice,” and real estate mogul Trump, return Sept. 9 to NBC.

Heche to join ‘Everwood’

New York — Anne Heche will join the cast of “Everwood,” the WB drama about a Manhattan brain surgeon who relocates in a Colorado mountain town.

The actress, who has starred in the movies “Wag the Dog” and “Six Days, Seven Nights,” will play the role of Amanda Carver, the “patron saint” of the town of Everwood, the WB announced. The show’s main character, played by Treat Williams, becomes involved with Heche’s character while helping her cope with her husband’s paralysis.

Also joining the third season of “Everwood,” which premieres 8 p.m. CDT Sept. 13, will be Scott Wolf, best known for his role on “Party of Five.”

Rawls to receive honorary award

Los Angeles — Grammy-winning singer Lou Rawls, who has helped raise more than $200 million for the United Negro College Fund, is getting an honorary doctorate from Wilberforce University in Ohio.

Rawls will be honored Saturday for his “lifelong service to the education of historically disadvantaged populations.” The presentation will be made during a concert performance at nearby Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio.

Rawls, whose hits include “Love Is a Hurtin’ Thing,” “Dead End Street,” “A Natural Man” and “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine,” launched the annual United Negro College Fund telethon in 1980.
