Arthur services

Services for Shirley Nadine Arthur, 81, Overland Park, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Arthur died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at her home.

She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Lawrence, the daughter of Charles and Georgia Russell Bales.

She was a 1940 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School and graduated in 1944 from Kansas University with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Mrs. Arthur was a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission school district for 40 years.

She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

She married William J. Arthur on April 2, 1944. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Vance Arthur, Overland Park, and Joseph “Barry” Arthur, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority or the American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
