Raiders eliminated at Central Regional
Omaha, Neb. ? Johnson County, Iowa, plated five runs in the ninth inning to trip Lawrence’s Raiders, 12-11, on Saturday in an elimination game at the American Legion Central Plains Regional Tournament.
The Raiders, who dropped a one-run game to Eden Prairie, Minn., on Friday night, were eliminated from the tournament.
Jake Hoover went 4-for-4 with an RBI, and Ryan Engel was 4-for-6 with two RBIs for the Raiders. Taylor Martin and Paul Metzler each had three hits; Metzler knocked in two runs and Martin plated one.
Brett Lisher added a triple and double and two RBIs, and Joe Crane had a double and three RBIs.
Matt Wintert worked 81/3 innings, allowing 10 earned runs off 18 hits.
James Chaney pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run and one hit.
The Raiders led 6-0 after one inning and 11-6 after six frames. The Raiders didn’t score in the final three innings, finishing with 17 hits to Iowa’s 19. The Raiders committed five errors; Iowa four.
Wesley Freie, who lasted one inning as Iowa’s starting pitcher, had three hits in five at bats with two RBIs. Erik Christensen also had three hits.
