Stephen L. Chapman

? Services for Stephen L. Chapman, 48, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with military honors by the Ottawa National Guard.

Mr. Chapman died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Ransom Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 18, 1955, in Ottawa, the son of Kenneth Eugene and Jewell Mealman Chapman.

Mr. Chapman grew up in Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1973. He moved to Lawrence in 1981 and returned to Ottawa in 1987. He was a journeyman electrician for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 226, retiring in May 1999.

He served in the U.S. Army from June 18, 1973, to June 17, 1976, attaining the rank of SP4. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He also received a commendation of Expert (Grenade) and Marksman (Rifle).

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa and a former member of the Ottawa Lions Club.

He married Sara Church in 1973. They later divorced. He married Katrina Louise Mitscher on May 30, 1981, in Lawrence. She died May 23, 1987. He married Carol Ann Bodenhamer on Oct. 31, 1988, in Ottawa. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Louise Cole, Ottawa, and Jennifer Marie Chapman, of the home; a son, Eric Sean, Pomona; his mother, Ottawa; two brothers, Kenneth Jr., and Kirt, both of Ottawa; four sisters, Claudia Seaton, Ottawa, Gloria Newman, Evergreen, Colo., Sheryl Stephenson, Ottawa, and Toni Schmidt, Pomona; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the service hour Monday at the mortuary, where the family will receive them from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to the Steve Chapman Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.

For the funeral, the family requests informal attire.
