The Lawrence Mentor’s Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 4. Eight pairs competed in a stratified game that followed a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the play.

Bob Huffman and Don Bush claimed first place in A. Bob Anderson and Zack Anthony placed second in A and first in B. Amy Miller and Grant Sutton were third in A and second in B.

  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 8. Eight tables participated in a stratified game. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing the North-South cards, Lynn Hui and Judy Bevan swept first place in A, B and C. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd placed second in A and B. Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel were third in A and second in C.

Competing East-West, Jean Otney and Wanda Durbin finished first in A. Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro tied for second in A with Virginia Seaver and Don Brennaman. Madelyn Jenks and Betty Collier tied for first place in B and C with Cathy Blumenfeld and Lois Clark.

Playing the North-South cards, Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough claimed first place in A. Julia Brooks and Jerry Sloan placed second. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd finished third in A and first in B. Jeff Nash and Lois Jones took fourth in A. Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn were second in B. Bobbie Figgins and Martie Hartman placed first in B.

Sitting East-West, Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman finished first in A. Bobbie McCorkle and Mary Beth Treece claimed second in A and first in B and C. Donna Johnson and Dave Piro were third in A. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee took fourth in A and second in B and C.

  • University Bridge Club announces the winners of its Aug. 7 game. Hosts were Hank and Dottie Miller and Tom and Cathy Waller.

Blue division winners were: Don Whittaker, first; Hank Miller, second; and Al Smith, third.

Pink division winners were: Bette Lukens, first; Wanda Kring, second; and Dottie Miller, third.

  • The Knights of Columbus Lawrence Council No. 1372 announces its Knight and Family of the Month for July.

Don Carbaugh was named Knight of the Month. Carbaugh has been a Knight for less than one year. He helps with Bingo and has been mowing the lawn at the Knight’s Hall.

The Robert McGreevy family has been named the Family of the Month. Bob has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 32 years. Bob and his wife, Dorothy, are active in the Knights and the church. Bob helps run Bingo and is president of the Columbus Homes and is a trustee of Council 1372. Dorothy is a member of the St. John the Evangelist Altar Society. She also is a eucharistic minister. Bob is an usher.
