Rain moves out of the area

Damp weather, which brought some light sprinkles to Lawrence this morning, has left the Lawrence area through the weekend, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“The chances for rainfall have now pushed to the south,” Sayers said this afternoon. He said Lawrence received about two-hundredths of an inch of rain this morning.

Scattered clouds will continue through the evening, he said.

“It will be partly cloudy tonight, with the low dropping to 50, which would be a record,” he said.

The old morning low record of 54 for Aug. 13 was set four decades ago, back in 1964, he said.

That would be the second day in a row for setting a record low. Today’s morning low was 47, which was five degrees cooler than the old record low of 52, set in 1964.

“It’s been definitely a cool summer, but going over the stats, its not been that abnormally cool,” Sayers said.

Friday’s high will climb to 73. The skies will start out partly cloudy, becoming mostly cloudy, he said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 52, with mostly sunny skies and the high reaching 78. Sunday’s morning low will be 57.

“Sunday, it will be a little better for the pools, with the high of 82,” he said.
