Eight-year-old Alexa Harmon-Thomas won three gold medals in the primary division at the National AAU Junior Olympics during the weekend in Des Moines, Iowa.

Harmon-Thomas, who attends Quail Run School, won the 200- and 400-meter races and the long jump. She set a national age-group record in the 400 with a clocking of 1:08.26.

Robert Dunn, a 12-year-old from Lawrence, won the midget discus with a throw of 124 feet. Dunn also competed earlier this month in the USTFF Junior Olympics in Eugene, Ore., where he won the shot put (47-7) and was second in the discus (109-6).

Two other Lawrence youths medaled in Des Moines. Bridgette Berry, 9, earned a bronze in the sub-bantam long jump, and Monica Howard, 10, collected a bronze in the bantam high jump.

Harmon-Thomas, Berry and Howard compete for the Lawrence Track Club.
