Area fishing report

CLINTON Lake (updated 8-4) — Water 85 degrees and 4.1 feet above normal pool. Channel catfish good, at times excellent. Limits being reported from baited areas. Best baits include nightcrawlers, livers, shrimp and stink baits. Some fish being caught in outlet on nightcrawlers. Crappie poor. Anglers aren’t reporting much success in main lake. Some being caught around marina docks at 6-8 feet. Drum good using worms in outlet. Walleye poor in outlet using minnows and nightcrawlers. No reports from lake. White bass good, but spotty. Best bet is to find surfacing fish. They’ll hit most any shad imitation lure or jig.

PERRY LAKE (updated 8-4) — Water 82 degrees and 2.0 feet over normal pool. Channel catfish good. Feeders feeding twice in morning and twice in evening. Limits off Hog Trough. Shad just the right size for drifting. Sauger fair off rocky points on the west side by dam, with crankbaits or twisters. White bass fair off rocky points and jetty on twisters or shad-colored crankbaits. Bunch of fish reported at Slough Creek. White crappie poor on tube jigs or minnows in 10-15 feet on the brushpiles. (Note: Fishing in stilling basin will pick up with current water release.)

DOUGLAS STATE LAKE (updated 8-4) — Bluegill fair near shore and biting readily on nightcrawlers, crickets, small jigs and flies. Carp fair on nightcrawlers, dough baits and fermented whole-kernel corn. Channel catfish good in evenings or at night using poultry liver, nightcrawlers and Bee Jay or Lucky Seven.

LEAVENWORTH STATE LAKE (updated 8-4) — Water clear. Bluegill and redear good on worms and small minnows under bobber. Channel catfish fair using nightcrawlers and shad sides. Largemouth bass fair on a variety of spinnerbaits, plastic baits, medium shiners and nightcrawlers. Walleye fair trolling crankbaits or vertically fishing jig and nightcrawler off rocky points and rock mounds.

LONE STAR LAKE (updated 8-4) — Channel catfish fair on nightcrawlers, cut bait, stinkbait and liver, mostly at night. Largemouth bass fair early in the morning and late in evening using top-water plugs around vegetation. Red-ear and bluegill fair on worms under bobber around weeds.
