William Lester Herd

Mr. Herd died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 26, 1922, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Joseph William and Mary Ruth Greer Herd.

Mr. Herd was a U.S. Army Air veteran of World War II and had worked for many years in maintenance at the Safeway Cereal Plant in Bonner Springs.

He was married to Ruby F. Herd for 61 years. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Carl, Lecompton; five daughters, Wanda Stevenson, Lawson, Mo., Rita Stroud, La Cygne, Jean Johnson, Welch, Okla., Jeanette Jacobson, Parker, and Betty Jo Gorsage, Freeman, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Meyer, Shawnee; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Charlotte Anderson, and a granddaughter died earlier.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.
