Kerry expected in Lawrence Friday night

Presidential candidate John Kerry will roll through Lawrence Friday night after his day of campaigning in Kansas City, but it was unknown whether his campaign would make a short stop here.

Marilyn Greathouse, chair of the Douglas County Democratic Party, sent out an e-mail to local supporters Thursday afternoon announcing that Kerry’s campaign will stop around 11:30 p.m. Friday at Lawrence’s Amtrak station.

Mark Simpson, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, said he had been told by Kerry campaign officials that Kerry’s train will “pause” on its way through Lawrence. But a Kerry campaign spokeswoman said she was unaware of such plans.

Further details weren’t immediately available.

The Amtrak station is just east of the city’s downtown at East Seventh and New Jersey streets.
