Banks robbed while attention diverted
Washington ? President Bush and Sen. John Kerry both went to Davenport, Iowa, on Wednesday, each promising that their policies would make everyone richer.
A few locals apparently decided not to wait.
While all eyes were focused on Bush and Kerry’s dueling events just two blocks apart, different robbers knocked over three banks in town.
“So these guys read the paper and figure it’s a good time to go rob a bank,” said Davenport Police Lt. Don Gano. “It’s like a Hollywood movie.”
Police caught the bandit in the first holdup, but not the other two.
