Kobach moving on despite undetermined outcome

The results of the Republican Party primary in the 3rd Congressional District remain in doubt, but Kris Kobach’s campaign Wednesday said it is preparing for the Nov. 2 contest against Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore.

“We’re moving into general election mode,” Kobach’s campaign manager Todd Abrajano said.

In unofficial returns, Kobach led Taff by 87 votes out of more than 85,000 ballots cast in the district that includes east Lawrence and Johnson and Wyandotte counties.

Taff refused to concede defeat, saying there are several thousand provisional ballots that haven’t been counted. These are ballots where questions arose about the voters’ eligibility.

On Tuesday, Taff’s campaign advisors said the results of the election may not be known until next week, and then there could be a recount after that.

Abrajano, with the Kobach campaign, said, “Every minute that is wasted bickering on the results of the election is a minute that we can’t focus on Dennis Moore.”

Moore, the lone Kansas Democrat in Congress, is seeking a fourth term.

Republicans are scheduled to hold a unity rally later today in Overland Park.
