Mary Katherine Howard

Mrs. Howard died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Village Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Centropolis, the daughter of Joseph Alvin and Zella Temperance Clover Sassaman.

She graduated from Appanoose High School in 1937. She was a homemaker and volunteered at Ottawa Middle School from 1988 to 1997. She was a near lifelong resident of Franklin County. She also lived in Argentine and Osage City for a short time.

She married William “Rex” Howard on May 18, 1941, in Centropolis. He died May 2, 1988.

Survivors include two sons, Rex Lee Howard, Lawrence, and Dale William Howard, Ottawa; one daughter, Sandra K. Staneart, Ottawa; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
