Teen Advisory Board will meet Aug. 19

The teen board now meets Thursdays. Join us at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at the News Center, 645 N.H. We’re looking for students entering sixth through 12th grades who like to write or have ideas about 18 & Under stories. If you’re interested, contact Christy Little at 832-6361 or Steve Rottinghaus at 832-7254, or send e-mail to teens@ljworld.com. Steve Rottinghaus also is recruiting school correspondents for an online 18 & Under.

Story ideas

Send us a tip

Have you written something for your school newspaper or a class assignment that stirred up controversy? If you want to share your experience with 18 & Under, send an e-mail with your name, grade, school and a brief description of your experience to teens@ljworld.com. We’ll also want to see a copy of the story or essay.

Also coming soon: 18 & Under talks with area students who recently competed in the state competition for the National American Miss title. Erica Collins, who will be a sophomore at Free State High School, won her age division and will compete for the national title this fall.

Entertainment

Good summer reads

J-W Teen Advisory Board members recommend some of their favorite books for poolside reading: “Sophie’s World” by Jostein Gaarder; “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd and “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” by David Sedaris.
