Bandits suffer first loss at Legion regional meet

? Lawrence’s Bandits fell to Lake Charles, La., 4-2, in the winners’ bracket final at the Mid Plains Regional American Legion baseball tournament.

The Bandits (32-11) will play either Claremore, Okla., or Taylor, Texas, this morning, with the winner advancing to tonight’s championship game.

Sunday, five errors in the first three innings doomed the Bandits. Travis Blankenship and Kyle Cross each had two hits for the losers. Nick Ayre allowed four runs on nine hits.

“Nick is a ground-ball machine, and unfortunately we didn’t field the ground balls,” Bandits coach Brad Stoll said. “I think our chances are still OK. We have three fresh, quality arms coming. Today we didn’t make adjustments at the plate and struck out too much. Errors and strikeouts killed us. But we still feel we have a good solid team and are still in it.”
