Jamie Boyd, a 6-foot forward from Underwood, Iowa, has become the first signee of new Kansas University women's basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson.
Boyd, Iowa's reigning Miss Basketball, scored 1,920 career points, the 15th highest total in state history. She also grabbed 1,007 rebounds, eighth all-time in the Hawkeye State.
Boyd led Underwood to Class 2A state championships as a junior and senior. As a senior, Boyd averaged 17.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
"She is not only a good basketball player, but also a good student and a good person," Henrickson said.
Boyd, who also was recruited by Saint Louis and South Dakota, helps fill a void left when Tamara Ransburg, the Jayhawks' starting center last season, announced she would transfer to Old Dominion.
