Classics professor new KU honors director

A nationally known classics professor has been named director of the Kansas University Honors Program.

Stanley Lombardo, a KU faculty member since 1976, will take over the program in June. He replaces Barbara Schowen, who retired last July after seven years as director and 26 years on the KU faculty.

Lombardo teaches Greek, Latin, classical mythology and Greek literature and culture.

The Honors Program offers top-level courses to about 1,500 students each year. It also assists students in applying for national scholarships such as the Rhodes and Truman, and administers KU’s undergraduate research program.
