Barbara J. Lown

Services for Barbara J. Lown, 61, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Lown died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at The Windsor Place.

She was born May 21, 1942, in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of Pete and Violet Jean Longnecker Bell.

Mrs. Lown attended school in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School. She moved to Carson City, Nev., in 1960 and lived for a year in San Francisco. She returned to Shawnee in 1963. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University in the 1960s and graduated from Hills Business College in 1969. She moved in 1970 to Lawrence.

She worked for the city of Lawrence for 13 years as a switchboard operator and for several years in the early 1970s for the police department. She volunteered at Penn House for more than 20 years and was a member of Church of God (Holiness).

She married Joseph E. Lown Jr. on June 25, 1982, in Ford County. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sheila Lillard, Taylorsville, Ky.; a sister, Janice McFadden, Shawnee; a brother, Billy Wayne Bell, Shawnee; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home, where family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
