KU baseball edges SMS

? Ryan Baty’s ground-rule double in the eighth inning plated what proved to be the decisive score as Kansas University snapped a six-game baseball losing streak with a 7-6 victory Tuesday over Southwest Missouri State.

KU led 2-0 after the top half of the first, but the Bears rallied to lead 5-2 after three innings.

Kansas (25-22-1) regained the lead with a four-run fifth, but SMS tied it at 6 in the bottom of the sixth.

Baty, who was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, drove in A.J. Van Slyke with the go-ahead run in the eighth, and Clint Schambach and Ken Livesey made the lead hold.

Schamback (4-2) picked up the win. He allowed a run on three hits over four innings. Livesey picked up his first save with an inning of one-hit, shutout relief.

KU will play host to Texas Tech this weekend.
