Four relatives found dead in K.C.

Police searching nearby home

? A man, his sister and her two young children were found dead inside their south Kansas City home Monday.

Kansas City police Sgt. Tony Sanders said officers entered the victims’ house with paramedics about 10:40 a.m. Monday and discovered one of the victims in the front of the house before finding three other bodies throughout the house.

As friends and family gathered to mourn the deaths at a church where the adult victims spent much of their time, police were searching a home about two blocks away that was thought to be connected with the killings. Police also were looking for a green car they believed was taken from the scene of the crime.

At the New Life Ministries church, Pastor Tim Willard spoke to the media on behalf of the family. He identified the victims only by first names — Danny, 22; Veronica, 21; and her children, Omar, 2, and 1-year-old Gloria.

Willard called Danny and Veronica “gifted and talented people.”

Danny was the music director at New Life and Veronica was known for her singing ability.

The adult victims’ grandfather, 72-year-old Dewight Henderson, said he drove from Sunrise Beach, Mo., to be at the service.

He had been pastor for the New Life church for 25 years and presided over the weddings of both Danny and Veronica at the church. The building is just a couple blocks from the crime scene.

Danny had since divorced and Veronica was separated from her husband. Henderson sold Veronica the house where she and her brother lived.

“They were both great singers and actors. They all grew up in this church,” Henderson said. “They were good kids and never caused any problems.”

He said Danny last worked at a Blockbuster Video, but had plans to record gospel music soon in Joplin, Mo. Veronica worked for an insurance company.

A cousin, Chris Gilpin, said Danny had been working with children in the congregation to prepare them for an upcoming talent showcase.

“He was a real genuine individual and spent his time looking out for other people,” he said.
