Ginny Weaver and Brendan Lynch announce the birth of a daughter, Camilla Robin Lynch, born April 2, 2004, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Maternal grandparents are Rob and Betsy Weaver, Lawrence. Paternal grandparents are Bill Lynch, Tucson, Ariz., and the late Nancy Miller Raab. Maternal great-grandparents are John and Dorothy Stout, Flushing, Mich., and Ken and Modena Weaver, Lawrence.

  • David and Kelli Raney, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Luke Terry Raney, born April 5, 2004, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He has a brother, Jack, 7, and a sister, Grace, 4.

Maternal grandparents are Sherry Banker, Lawrence, and the late Terry Banker. Paternal grandparents are Vicki and Jerome Booth, Lawrence. Great-grandparents are Gene and Loris Banker, Lawrence, and Howard and Helen Sapp, Deepwater, Mo.

  • Patrick Lyon, a senior at Lawrence High School, received a Deans’ Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art & Design, Columbus, Ohio. Lyon is the son of Patti and Paul Lyon Jr., Lawrence. He is a student of art instructor Wendy Vertachik.
  • Zac Blevins, Lawrence, is a member of the 2003-2004 Bethany College “Swedes” golf team. The team competes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Blevins is a freshman at the Bethany College in Lindsborg.
  • Elise Hofer, daughter of Rod and Roberta Hofer, of Lawrence, will receive a bachelor’s degree in German with a a minor in English during commencement ceremonies Sunday at Goshen College, Goshen, Ind. Hofer is a Free State High School graduate.
  • The Friends of the Lawrence Public Library has announced Marian Wilbur as its annual winner of the Mary Dalton Murphy Volunteer Award.

Wilbur has sorted and priced books, served on the board, and planned and worked at the sales. In recent years, she has accepted the responsibility of scheduling and organizing cashiers for both the spring and fall book sales.

She also continues to price English and writing books.

  • MacKenzie Flory, Baldwin, is a new junior member of the American Angus Assn. Junior members are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Assn., participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Assn., and participate in assocation-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.
  • Research projects by two Lawrence students were featured at “The Washburn Apeiron: A Forum of Student Research, Scholarship and Creativity” Friday at Washburn University.

Senior Melissa Fast, who is majoring in mathematics and education, is exhibited a poster presentation “As Math Goes On: History of Game Theory.”

Jessica Reichle, a junior majoring in psychology, showed a poster presentation, “Sociality in a Group of Captive Orangutans.”

An extension of the annual undergraduate research forum, the Apeiron allows students from all disciplines to present their work in an environment that closely resembles the professional conferences and performance venues of their chosen area of study.

  • James Maag will receive an honorary doctorate of commerce during commencement exercises May 15 at Washburn University. Maag, president of the Kansas Bankers Assn., received a bachelor’s degree in 1961 from Washburn and a master’s degree in 1964 from Kansas University.

Maag’s service to Washburn includes three years on the Washburn Board of Regents and terms as board member and president of the WU Alumni Assn. He was chairman of the Washburn Endowment Assn. board of trustees and currently serves as secretary.
