Sarah P. ‘Saddy’ Carr

? Services for Sarah P. “Saddy” Carr, 78, Wellington, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Wellington. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.

Mrs. Carr died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.

She was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Augusta, the daughter of Harry K. and Minnie (Snodgrass) Phipps. She was raised in Wichita, where she attended school and graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1943. She graduated with a degree in math in 1947 from Kansas University, where she had been in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She moved to Wellington in 1950.

Mrs. Carr taught for a year at Wellington High School and then for a year at Planeview High School. She was a member of Culture Club, PEO and First Presbyterian Church. She was a founder of the St. Luke’s Auxiliary, had more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service with the group and helped start its annual bazaar.

She married Francis Carr on June 5, 1948. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, David Carr, Wellington; a daughter, Sarah Carr, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Virginia Altman, Wellington; and two grandsons.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington.
