Why Clinton?

To the editor:

I read in the Journal-World April 16 an article titled “Clinton to give first Dole Lecture.” The article states that Kansas University has invited President Clinton to make the first Dole Lecture. I find this a very poor choice! KU already has the reputation of being a far-left-wing liberal university, yet I applaud KU for being instrumental in establishing the Dole Institute. Why on earth do you invite President Clinton to make the first speech?

The decade of the ’90s was full of Clinton sexual scandals, lying under oath and lying to the American people. Now we learn from the 9-11 hearings that Clinton’s inaction during the ’90s, cutbacks in CIA funding and intelligence communication barriers established in the mid-’90s were reasons why the terrorists were emboldened to execute the 9-11 catastrophe.

Dole is a true war hero, so why choose a draft-dodger to make the first speech in the Dole Center? I ask you to reconsider and invite someone like President George H.W. Bush, who flew 58 combat missions during World War II, was shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft fire, rescued by a U.S. submarine and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery in action.

State Rep. Frank Miller,
