This year’s MS Walk will be Saturday in Burcham Park. The Multiple Sclerosis Society is looking for volunteers and participants for this fund-raising event. Volunteers will help with registration, form rest-stop teams, drive emergency vehicles or run errands and complete other setup needs. New or veteran walkers are welcome to participate. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m. There will be a 5K or 6-mile route option. To register, volunteer or for more information, call the number above or visit www.msmidamerica.org.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • Heartland Medical Clinic needs volunteers who are medically trained, such as registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants and other medical assistants to check in patients, take vital statistics and work with clinic doctors in patient instruction and care. Heartland Medical Clinic is a Christian ministry that provides free medical care for uninsured patients. The staff are all volunteers. Shifts last two to three hours, and are flexible. For more information, call Amy Bertrand at 841-7297.
  • Perry Lake needs volunteers to help keep its shoreline clean and maintain park trails. Campground fees will be waived for volunteers. Lake volunteers can enjoy the surroundings at Perry Lake while helping to keep the area clean. Call Bunnie Watkins at (785) 597-5144 for more information.
  • Volunteers are always needed to help local senior citizens with occasional or ongoing yard care needs, such as raking or mowing. These services can make a big difference for seniors who live independently. Families can volunteer together and duties can be flexibly arranged to fit volunteers’ schedules. One-time projects are being coordinated for Saturday morning and for the coming spring and summer months. Call the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, 865-5030, for more information.
  • This week is National Volunteer Week. If you know a volunteer in your community, thank them for their hard work. If you are interested in participating in this week of service either individually or with a group, contact the volunteer center to help find a project.
