KU baseball hammered by OSU

? Travis Metcalf staked Kansas University to an early 2-0 lead with a first-inning single Saturday at Reynolds Stadium.

It didn’t last long.

Every Oklahoma State starter scored in the bottom of the first inning, and the Cowboys rolled to a 14-4 Big 12 Conference baseball victory.

Kansas added a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Andy Scholl and another in the fifth on a solo homer by Sean Richardson, but OSU starter Spencer Grogan went the distance for the third straight game and improved his league-leading record to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

OSU’s Rod Allen hit a solo homer in the fourth and finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

KU starter Chris Smart (4-5) faced six batters without recording an out. He allowed two hits, two walks and hit two batters with pitches before being replaced by Ken Livesey, who faced four more batters before Okie State made an out. OSU (23-13, 6-4 Big 12) sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning.

Kansas fell to 24-18-1 overall and 2-9 in league play. The teams will close out the series at 2 p.m today.
