Topeka ? The Army Reserve’s 129th Transportation Company was the only Kansas unit to have its tour of duty extended last week to address attacks by Sunni and Shiite insurgents in Iraq, Kansas military officials said.

The Pentagon’s announcement last week of the service extension includes about 20,000 troops and 300 soldiers from the 129th who will spend three more months in Iraq.

The wives of several members of the unit based in Johnson and Osage counties petitioned last fall for the 129th’s quick return.
