The Kaw Valley Quilter’s Guild will play host to Marsha McCloskey, Seattle, a well-known designer, author and quilter. She will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., on feathered star quilts. She will give a lecture at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church on blended quilts. She will give a workshop from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday on blended quilts. She will give workshops from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday on feathered star medallion quilts.   • The Lawrence 299ers’ Duplicate Bridge Club met April 7. The stratified game attracted 11 pairs. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Donna Reed and Carol Lombardi finished first in A. Amy Miller and Betty Spalsbury claimed second in A and first in B and C. Harriet Olson and Emily Foster were third in A and second in B. Jeff Nash and Lois Jones took fourth in A. Jan Darting and Janet Williams were third in B.

  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met April 9. Eleven and a half tables competed in a stratified game using a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing the North-South cards, Chris Lane and Yvonne Hedges claimed first place in A and B. Mary White and Shirlie Vaughn were second. Frances Vogel and Erna Holmes took third. Virginia Eddy and Phyllis Brownlee took fourth in A, second in B and first in C. Harry Talley and Don Daugherty placed fifth in A, third in B and second in C.

Sitting East-West, Cathy Blumenfeld and Lynn Hui swept first place in A, B and C. Bebe Huxtable and Ilse Steinhardt claimed second place in A, B and C. Sally Taylor and Klee Zaricky placed third in A and B. Don Brennaman and Dan Osman were fourth in A and B, and third in C. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks took fifth in A and B.

Playing North-South, Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough finished first in A. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd placed second in A and first in B. Chris Lane and Shirley Reese took third in A and second in B. Lois Clark and Harry Shaffer were fourth in A. Lynn Hui and Judy Bevan were first in C.

Competing East-West, Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver took first place in A. Cathy Blumenfeld and Mike Blumenfeld placed second in A and first in B and C. Lois Jones and Jeff Nash were third in A. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks finished fourth in A and second in B and C.

  • The Junior High School group at St. John the Evangelist fasted for 30 hours on April 3 and then collected food for the interfaith food pantry. The Knights of Columbus Council 1372 agreed to donate 300 loaves of bread to support their efforts. The Knights will donate 20 loaves of bread a week for the next 15 weeks. With the Knight’s donation, the group collected 1,406 items.
