Athletes of the week

Danny Schneider

Free State

Class: Junior

Sport: Track and field

The week: Perhaps nobody had a more grueling — and at the same time, successful — week than Schneider. In a span of three days, the distance runner competed in seven races. He won all four of his individual distance events — the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at Junction City — on Thursday, then he won the 3,200 Saturday at the Blue Valley Relays. His 800 (1:57.5) and 1,600 (4:31.6) times are the best in the state this year, and he also has a hand in the state-best 4×800-meter relay time of 8:06.1.

Rob Musgrave

Santa Fe Trail

Class: Senior

Sport: Baseball

The week: Musgrave continued a perfect dominance of opposing hitters this week. As the Chargers’ undisputed ace, Musgrave kept his earned-run average at 0.00 with a complete-game shutout Monday against Basehor-Linwood. He gave up just four hits in the game and struck out 11 batters. With his latest pitching gem, Musgrave upped his season totals to 18 innings pitched, 33 strikeouts, two shutouts and a 3-0 record with one save. He has signed to play baseball at Wichita State next year.
