Prep Hairston to visit OU; Miami to tap Texas aide

Malik Hairston, a 6-foot-5 high school senior guard from Detroit, will not make a decision on his future college this weekend.

In fact, Hairston’s dad said Saturday night that the McDonald’s All-American had decided to take one more official campus visit — to Oklahoma — the week after the Jordan Classic All-Star game, April 17 on the University of Maryland campus.

Hairston is considering Kansas University, UCLA, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

  • University of Texas associate head coach Frank Haith is expected to be named the next head basketball coach at Miami as early as Monday, ESPN.com reported Saturday.

Haith, 38, reportedly was offered a five-year deal Saturday and accepted, but still needs to have a lawyer examine the contract today.

KU associate head coach Norm Roberts and Manhattan head coach Bobby Gonzalez are the other finalists.

Meanwhile, the New York Post says the St. John’s search committee was impressed with Roberts during Monday’s interview and could tap Roberts if favorite Matt Doherty doesn’t land the job.

School president Fr. Donald Harrington was to think about the candidates, including DePaul head coach Dave Leitao, over the weekend.
