James A. Manley Sr.

Memorial services for James A. Manley Sr., 66, Lawrence, are pending in Lawrence and Hays and will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Mr. Manley died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Dorchester, Mass., the son of Fredrick William and Eva (Rowland) Manley.

Mr. Manley served in the Air Force for nine years. He was a firefighter for 15 years and drove a school bus for the Hays school district. He also owned and operated the Centennial Restaurant in Hays for three years.

He married Catherine Kahl on Aug. 29, 1958, in Topeka. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Vickie Gerstner, Mesa, Ariz.; three sons, Jim Jr. and Jay, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Scott, Olathe; two brothers, Fred and Robert, both of Boston; three sisters, Joyce Wolff, Dorchester, Mass., Dottie Lovely, Brandon, Vt., and Barbara Manley, Boston; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
