Global T-shirt auction

New York — Put the whole world in Heidi Klum’s hands and you get a perky yellow butterfly.

Asked by Aveda and Wildlife Works to design a T-shirt that will be auctioned to benefit the environmental organization Global Greengrants, supermodel Klum used a globe as a butterfly’s body and she drew on wings, antennas and signed her name with a heart at the end.

Ben Stiller, Susan Sarandon and Christina Applegate were among the other celebrities asked to sketch how they see — or would like to see — the state of the planet.

The shirts will be auctioned on eBay from April 20-30.

Global Greengrants is a U.S.-based environmental group that distributes funds to small, grassroots groups in some of the more impoverished parts of the world.

Spring cleaning

New York — Just like windows need a good washing after the winter, so does your hair.

People are more likely to use deep conditioners in the winter, often leaving deposits of silicones and waxes, says stylist Charles Worthington. These deposits can be removed with cleansing surfactants, but those can leave hair “too” clean, making it unmanageable.

Water soluble polymers provide slip and lubricity to promote ease when combing, and add gloss and luster as the hair dries, explains Worthington.

Worthington’s new product, which has these polymers, is called Results Beautifully Clean Shampoo.

Fashion Barbies

New York — Barbie might just be the world’s most recognized fashion model, so it’s no wonder that both Kate Spade and Badgley Mischka are dressing her this spring.

The Badgley Mischka design is an elaborately beaded A-line wedding dress, featuring rhinestones, iridescent beads and floral appliques. To complement the satin-faced silk organza skirt, Barbie wears chandelier earrings and a solitaire rhinestone ring, and carries a white velvet handbag.

The Kate Spade Barbie wears a green and pink floral-print coat with three-quarter sleeves. It’s based on a one-of-a-kind coat by Barbara Tfank. Underneath, Barbie has an ivory knit sweater and green shantung cigarette pants.

Her accessories, which are the foundation of Spade’s brand, include a wicker bag with green and gold details, green high-heel sandals, antique-finish earrings and a necklace with turquoise accents. She also carries a canvas tote that holds a dog modeled after Spade’s own Maltese, Henry.

A portion of the sales of the Kate Spade Barbie will benefit the Young Lions Program at the New York Public Library, which celebrates young writers and artists.
