Take a good look

Take full advantage of the glistening spring scenery all around us.

Look around. A lot. Quickly. Don’t miss it all. It’s another glorious spring breakout for growing things in the Lawrence area, and we can only hope everyone takes advantage of the visual treats being provided by nature.

It is almost impossible to look in any direction in any part of the community and not see a visual delight, such as the golden forsythias, the gleaming white Bradford pear trees, laden tulip trees, the promising redbud plantings and on and on. Everyone has a favorite and this season is providing tremendous satisfaction for the viewer and also for those whose sense of smell is good enough to pick up on sweet-smelling blooms.

Recent rains have helped heighten the prospects for one of the most scenic springs in the region and scintillating sunshine often boosts and highlights the colorful images.

Then has anyone taken the time recently to be out at night and enjoy the crackling clear skies and the gleaming stars and beaming moon? There are exciting and enjoyable things to be had after dark and it’s worth a walk on a moderate evening to drink it in.

We Kansans too often dwell on the weather and environments we do not relish. Granted, spring can produce fierce, undesirable onslaughts of winds, hail, cloudbursts and even tornadoes. But there is a lot more sweet than bitter and this happens to be one of those times which border on the indescribable.

All this won’t fade immediately, so there is ample time to move around and survey Mother Nature’s menu of treats. Note how things can change in one day’s time. Don’t wait too long, because some delights can vanish in a hurry and brisk winds can swoop away the blossoms from artistic natural canvases.

If you haven’t been out lately, make it a point to do it soon, and often, while we have the chance to see a brilliant show by our elements and the conditions that blend them so masterfully.

You’ll be sorry if you wait too long, honest.
