Sebelius says she has no interest in VP slot

? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius keeps popping up on lists of potential running mates for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, but Sebelius said again Friday she was not interested.

Asked Friday if she would decline the vice presidential spot if it were offered to her, Sebelius said: “I am happy to issue that statement.”

“I have not been solicited about running, so I haven’t felt that it was necessary,” Sebelius told reporters at her weekly news conference. “I am interested in being governor of Kansas.”

Sebelius’ name continues to receive attention from news organizations and political operatives because she is perceived as a Midwestern moderate who can provide geographic balance for the Massachusetts senator. Also, some Democrats believe putting a woman on the ticket would generate excitement.

In addition, Sebelius’ oldest son, 22-year-old Ned, works for the Kerry campaign in Washington.

But Sebelius said: “I am interested in staying right here.”
