Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Women’s ministries will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a craft night in the fellowship hall of Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

Martha and Mary’s Way

“Faces on Faith,” a video series sponsored by Martha and Mary’s Way, will begin Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St.

The series will focus on writers and scholars Kathleen Norris, Hyun Kgung Chung and Rebecca Chopp.

The public is invited to attend the series from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and at the same time April 20 and 27. The public also may attend the series from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and at the same time April 22 and 29.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Parish office of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., will be closed Monday.

Daughters of Isabella will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the social hall.

Adoration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Knights of Columbus will meet at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the north social hall.

Choir rehearsal will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Women’s Bible study will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Room 212.

First Christian Church

Children in the 10:10 a.m. Sunday school classes will decorate cookies to be served at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen.

Children’s Wednesday Bible Blast will continue at 7 p.m. each week through April, with the grand finale April 28.

First Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Raymond J. Fancher is the new interim senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

A trained interim pastor, Fancher will help the church in its search for a new, full-time pastor.

Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center

The social ministries committee of Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center is organizing the meal at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen, 1000 Ky.

Members of the church, 2104 W. 15th St., are encouraged to sign up to help serve or bring food to the lunch.

Kansas Zen Center

The Kansas Zen Center, 1423 N.Y., will sponsor a public talk on Zen Buddhism by Judy Roitman, the center’s guiding teacher, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Martha and Mary’s Way

Sister Irene McGrath, co-director of Martha and Mary’s Way, will lead a six-part seminar called “Ageless in the Lord” from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays April 21 through may 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

This seminar is designed to challenge common attitudes about aging and offer possibilities for aging with joy, balance and integrity.

Pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per participant.

Morning Star Christian Church

“Straight-Up Beautiful,” a one-day conference for girls in seventh through 12th grades, will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 17 at Morning Star Christian Church, 998 N. 1771 Road.

Featured speaker will be Genelle Frenoy, a model for Abercrombie & Fitch. She will discuss how girls can fulfill their dreams and have real friendships.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The Ric Averill Players will lead the “Time to Grow” entertainment party today at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The party will be for seniors and singles from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be for families with children from 12 years old to college age, and singles under 55, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a youth group meeting at 6 p.m.. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. Members will work on the “Canstruction” project.

Zane Wilemon, youth director, leads the 7 p.m. Wednesday Bible study in the youth room. Participants are reading the Bible in one year.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The monthly Communion coffee for those who find it difficult to get to a Sunday worship service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

The women’s book study will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the parsonage for a light supper and the study of Rick Warren’s book, “The Purpose-Driven Life.”

Reservations are due Wednesday for the Women of the ELCA’s spring banquet, set for 6:30 p.m. April 21. Theme for the event is “What Mama Told Me.” Cost is $8 per person. Nursery will be provided.

Women of the ELCA will gather from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday for the monthly sewing/work day. Potluck lunch will be served at noon in the social room.

Theologian in Residence

The 11th advance workshop for 2004 Theologian in Residence, John Dominic Crossan, will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Refreshments and book sales will be available at 6:15 p.m.

Speaker will be Priscilla McKinney, member of the In-Depth Bible Study Group at Plymouth. Topic: “A Long Way from Tipperary: What a Former Irish Monk Discovered in His Search for the Truth,” by Crossan.

The workshop is free and open to the public.

University Community of Christ

Members of University Community of Christ, 1900 University Drive, are invited to attend a Midlands Mission Center Conference April 17 at Bethel Community of Christ, 8510 Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kan.

A reception for Grant Lockwood, the new son of Bob and Shannon Lockwood, will follow the 10 a.m. worship service April 18.

Veritas Christian School

Veritas Christian School, 256 N. Michigan, will hold its kindergarten roundup for prospective students Friday.

There will be a 9 a.m. session and a 1 p.m. session.

Parents and their children of kindergarten age are invited to attend the roundup.

Veritas is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International and the Association of Classical Christian Schools.
