Big O-North inning dooms Firebirds, 6-4

? A six-run third inning doomed Free State High into its first Sunflower League loss of the season Tuesday.

Olathe North topped the Firebirds, 6-4, when one lousy inning was all it took to give FSHS an insurmountable deficit.

“We played good baseball with the exception of one half-inning,” Firebird coach Mike Hill said. “It was a combination of hits, errors and walks and it all happened at the wrong time.”

Senior Ryne Price drilled a two-run home run for the Firebirds, who outhit the Eagles, 9-4. Paul Metzler went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Anthony Dreiling was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Next for Free State (4-2) is the city showdown game with Lawrence High on Thursday at Ice Field.
