Glass triumphs in Oregon

Lawrence’s Bob Glass is off to a fast start on this spring’s PBA Senior Tour.

Glass defeated Don Sylvia, 258-235, in the final game of the best-of-three title round to win the PBA Senior Epicenter Classic on Wednesday night in Klamath Falls, Ore.

“Winning was really nice, and at the same time unexpected,” said Glass, who took home $8,000. “I really didn’t expect to make the cut to match play yesterday, so to win is just that much better.”

Glass, who was the 2000 and 2001 Senior Player of the Year, converted the 3-10 split in the 10th frame of the first game to defeat Sylvia, 211-207. However, Sylvia evened the match at one after Glass left five consecutive 10-pins down the stretch, while Sylvia spared in the 10th frame to take the second game, 199-191.

In the decisive third game, the competitors were even entering the final frame. After Sylvia threw a spare on his first shot, Glass took advantage by striking out in the 10th frame to take the title game, 258-235, and the match, two games to one.

It was the seventh Senior Tour title for Glass, and his first since winning the 2001 PBA Senior Hammond Open in Hammond, Ind.

The PBA Senior Tour now moves to Las Vegas for the first major of the year, the ABC Senior Masters at the Suncoast Casino. The finals will be April 9.
