Two suspects arrested after high-speed chase

Oskaloosa — Two men were held Monday in the Jefferson County Jail while possible charges against them were reviewed in connection with a burglary and high-speed police chase.

The suspects, ages 47 and 26, were arrested Monday after their car missed a curve in Leavenworth County northwest of Tonganoxie near 243rd Street and Hollingsworth Road, Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers said.

About 1:20 p.m., the suspects fled from the scene of an alleged burglary at a home in the 5900 block of Kingman Road near Perry, Jefferson County Det. Jerry Green said.

A sheriff’s deputy followed the suspects, but discontinued the chase as the suspects’ car turned onto a gravel road. The suspects’ car had been traveling at 110 miles per hour, Green said.

About two hours later a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter spotted the car on U.S. Highway 24 north of Lawrence. Another chase ensued after officers were guided to the car near Tonganoxie.
