Kaun to choose between KU, Duke this week

Alexander “Sasha” Kaun, who made an official campus visit to Duke over the weekend, hopes to finalize his college choice by Tuesday or Wednesday.

So said the 6-foot-11 Kaun after returning Sunday to Melbourne, Fla., and Florida Air Academy.

“Right now, I need to compare the two schools and sleep over everything,” Kaun told Shay Wildeboor of rivals.com. “Everybody is all the same right now. It’s a very hard decision for me.”

Kaun said he had a great visit to Duke and now “needs a couple of days to sort everything through and put it into order.”

Florida Air Academy coach Aubin Goporo said he expected Kaun to make his decision Tuesday.

“He has several tests that he must complete before that time and some other school work that he must finish, but I really believe that all this will be over on Tuesday,” Goporo said. “He has a difficult decision that must be made, so I’m not going to pressure him.”

Quentin Thomas, a 6-3 guard from Oakland, Calif., who visited KU over the weekend, said he “had a great visit to Kansas, and I may be ready to make a decision sometime this week or soon after that.”

“It was a great visit, just great,” Thomas’ mother indicated.

Thomas, who has visited Arizona State, said he still could schedule a trip to North Carolina. KU, ASU and UNC are his finalists.

Russell Robinson, 6-1 from New York, also visited KU over the weekend. He is considering KU, St. John’s, Georgia Tech, Connecticut and Kentucky.

KU has two scholarships to give.

The Jayhawks received a nonbinding oral commitment from Midwest City, Okla., power forward Darnell Jackson (6-foot-9) in July.

The early signing period runs from Nov. 12-19.
