Bengals’ Dillon hurts his groin

Cincinnati Bengals running back Corey Dillon was kept out of the second half of Sunday’s 21-14 win over the Cleveland Browns because of a groin injury.

Dillon, who was listed as questionable coming into the game, carried four times for 20 yards in the first half. However, he was unable to make any cuts and tiptoed through the line.

He went to the locker room with 13:06 left in the second quarter for what was announced as an equipment problem. Dillon returned and had one more carry, picking up five yards before going to the bench for the remainder of the contest.

Tennessee Titans linebacker Peter Sirmon was hospitalized for precautionary reasons with several small fractures in his lower back.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the injury was not spinal-cord-related.

“As far as we can tell, the X-rays were clear, and we just took him over there to try to get him comfortable,” Fisher said after the Titans’ 30-13 victory over Pittsburgh. “We’ll leave him here overnight and continue to evaluate him.”

Denver running back Clinton Portis did not play against the Detroit Lions because of a bruised chest.

Carolina linebacker Dan Morgan sat out against the Atlanta Falcons because of a pulled hamstring, making it the 15th game the Panthers’ former first-round draft pick has missed due to injury.

New England had seven inactive players: LB Mike Vrabel, LB Ted Johnson, G Damien Woody, T Adrian Klemm, WR David Patten, NT Ted Washington and FB Fred McCrary.

Kelly Holcomb was Cleveland’s No. 3 quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, backing up starter Tim Couch and rookie Nate Hybl. Holcomb broke his right leg and sprained his left ankle last week at San Francisco.
