‘Late Night’ will change

Memo to entrepreneurs: Don’t start printing “Late Night With Bill Self” T-shirts yet.

Yes, there will be a season-opening basketball celebration Oct. 17 at Allen Fieldhouse, but the official name will remain a mystery.

“It won’t be ‘Late Night With Bill Self,'” KU’s first-year hoops coach said Saturday.

“The marketing people are coming up with something real unique. It will be a fun night,” Self said. “We’ve got some special things planned. We’ll release what we’re going to do in a week or so. There will be a lot of people who will want to get in the building this year. There always is. This will be a special one.”

Kansas associate AD Jim Marchiony said an announcement on the new Late Night name would come Monday.
