Riney Ace: Terry Riney used an 8-iron for a hole-in-one on the 135-yard No. 2 hole lat weekend at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Blaine Riney and Steve Rosel.

  • Strikers Blue Win: Megan Johnson, Rebekah Berkley, Emilie Humbarger and Meghan Sinclair scored as Lawrence Strikers Blue topped KC Omega, 4-2, Sunday in Olathe. Assists went to Nicole LaFond, Johnson and Humbarger. Also Sunday, Lawrence Strikers White bowed to KC Legends, 2-0.

  • Buddy Champs: Brian Kingsley and David Wahl won the Lawrence Fishing and Outdoor Club buddy tournament Saturday at Perry Lake. Matt Brown and Nate Cunningham teamed for second place. Brown and Tony Sutton tied for the biggest bass caught. Each landed an 181/2-inch largemouth.

  • McFalls Winners: Brian McFall and Carol McFall of Lawrence won their age divisions at the Pony Express Run Saturday in St. Joseph, Mo. Brian McFall was also third overall in the 5K, and Carol McFall was the third woman overall in the half-marathon.

  • Wichita Champs: Lawrence’s David Johnston, Steve Riley and Dick Wilson earned age-group championships in Sunday’s Wichita Half Marathon. Johnston won the 30-34 division, Riley the 45-49 age group and Wilson the over-60 division. Also, Lawrence’s Brian Collins was fifth in the 20-29 age group.

  • Basketball Deadline: Deadline for entering a team in the city’s fall basketball leagues is Friday. Forms and fees must be turned into city offices at the Community Building by 5 p.m. League play will begin Oct. 12. For information, call 832-7920.

  • Benefit Run, Walk: Head for the Cure 5K Run and Walk, a benefit for the Chris Anthony Brain Tumor Research Fund, will be Oct. 12 at Corporate Woods in Overland Park. For information, go to www.headforthecure.org. Anthony, a Kansas University graduate, died of a brain tumor at age 37.

  • Soccer Champion: Hannah Hut of Lawrence played on the KC Strikers United U-15 soccer team that won the Gateway Classic Tournament last weekend in St. Louis.
