FSHS soccer tops Pioneers

? Free State High had some missed opportunities in its 2-0 boys soccer victory Tuesday at Leavenworth.

So, was it still a good win?

“I haven’t found a bad one yet,” FSHS coach Jason Pendleton quipped after the Firebirds improved to 4-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Sunflower League.

Free State took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brian Ozorkiewicz off a pass from K.J. Siebert in the 20th minute, then pushed its advantage to 2-0 on a tally by Joel Angelone with about 25 minutes remaining.

FSHS junior Aaron Williams earned the shutout over the Pioneers. Sam Buhler was cited for playing well defensively.

“We’ve taken care of business up to this point,” Pendleton said, “and we’re just looking forward to playing Shawnee Mission East on Thursday.”

The Firebirds and Lancers will clash at 4 p.m. at Free State.
